Merkl Joins ZKsync Ignite to Manage $60M in ZK Token Distribution

As the chain continues to gain traction, it’s introducing one of the most ambitious token distribution programs to date — ZKsync Ignite.

The ZKsync Ignite program is designed to boost ZKsync liquidity by streaming 300M ZK tokens ($60M USD at the time of writing) over nine months, rewarding DeFi users for providing liquidity, lending, and trading on selected protocols built on ZKsync. At the core of this initiative is Merkl, the key partner ensuring smooth reward distribution and a seamless user experience.

What's the ZKsync Ignite Program?

Developed by Matter Labs, ZKsync is a Layer-2 blockchain that leverages Zero-Knowledge (ZK) rollups to enhance Ethereum transaction speeds and reduce costs. The ZK token is at the heart of the ZKsync ecosystem, enabling holders to actively participate in governance by voting on upgrades and proposals (e.g. the Ignite proposal). This mechanism strengthens ZKsync’s commitment to decentralization, ensuring the community plays a key role in shaping the network’s future.

Starting on January 6th, the ZKsync Ignite Program is designed to incentivize DeFi users who engage with liquidity pools, supply assets to lending markets, or trade on admitted DeFi apps built on the ZKsync blockchain. A total of 300M ZK tokens will be distributed across three seasons over nine months. Participants will receive their ZK rewards directly through the Ignite app managed by Merkl.

The 15 protocols admitted for Season 1 include popular DEXs like Uniswap, PancakeSwap, SyncSwap and KOI; perpetuals such as RFX and Vest Exchange; and lending platforms like Aave and ZeroLend.

Merkl: The Backbone of ZKsync Ignite

Merkl, expert and pioneer in incentive distribution, has been selected as the primary partner responsible for managing the distribution of the $60M USD in ZK tokens throughout the program. This critical role involves:

• OpenBlock Labs acts as the analytics manager, reviewing protocols each season, adjusting token allocations based on performance, and providing regular updates.
• Jumper provides a cross-chain bridge, allowing users to transfer tokens from other chains to ZKsync, ensuring smooth liquidity contributions and reward eligibility.
• Enso and KyberSwap enhance the user experience with their auto-swap technology, streamlining the process of depositing any tokens into liquidity pools and lending markets directly within the Ignite app (coming soon).
• Zyfi enables gasless ZK token claims (gasless liquidity deposits coming soon), making participation in the Ignite program even easier and more accessible for everyone.

The ZKsync Ignite Program is governed by a DeFi Steering Committee (DSC), composed of five members. This committee holds veto power over key decisions like eligibility, token allocation, and program adjustments, ensuring that the program remains fair, transparent, and aligned with community interests.
